Grundarfjordur to Isafjordur

Traveling from Grundarfjordur to Isafjordur (Westfjords) can be time-consuming if you drive. I have marked the towns with arrows, so that you can get a better perspective of the area.

Note the close proximity to the Arctic Circle.

Isafjordur. Arrival option--Fly in from Reykjavik. (See Airstip on the right) Credits: www.airports-worldwide.com. I was fascinated with the brevity of the landing strip, but was unable to accurately show this from a land view.

Or take a leisurely cruise, arriving by sea. Ocean Princess.

Iceland is completely unknown to me, although a neighbor (a college professor) goes there once or twice per year to train teachers in something I don't understand.

Margaret, thanks for visiting and commenting on HDP today. So far no one has contacted me to say that they live in one of the houses in my photos. But, my lawyers and I are ready if they do!

Jack, actually the lady was so excited that I had photographed that exact spot from the air with my random photograph. She was thrilled.

We have number of airstrips like that in Norway too. they work well with aircrafts like DeHavilland's Dash-8.

Re your question: The pole is a navigation mark standing on a partial submerged rock. This one is less than 100 meters from the open ocean.
