Norwich, The Wauregan. "Abraham Lincoln Slept Here"

During the 1800's and early 1900's, the Wauregan House was regarded as the place to stay while traveling between New York and Boston. During the latter part of the 1900's, it fell into disrepair. It has finally been restored and is now used for apartments for limited income inhabitants.

The building on the left is the Norwich Superior Court, a relatively new building, built in the early 1980's. The buildings on the right house attorneys' offices. I used to work in an building (not visible) behind the courthouse. We had a bit of excitement on May 24, 1984, when a man took his gun with him into the courthouse and shot his wife during divorce proceedings. Metal detectors were soon installed to prevent further episodes. Click here to read more.

Norwich, Connecticut

City Hall, Norwich.
One of my favorite buildings.
For a brief moment, the deluge from Tropical Storm Lee stopped,
the sun came out, and I captured this photo.

I want to thank everyone for their concerns during and after Hurricane Irene. After several days, we finally have our power back. With the combination of rain and wind, lots of trees and branches landed on electrical wires, causing extensive problems for the electrical supply companies throughout the Northeast. When there is no power, I cannot use my computer. Some trees and large branches fell in our woods, but they did no damage.

Damage to homes was mostly along the shoreline, due to wave action during high tides. Following Irene, Tropical Storm Lee inundated us with more rain (10 to 15 inches). Throughout the Northeast United States the rivers are filled to overflowing. We live on a hill, so there are no worries there.  Lee was followed by Hurricane Katia. She decided to stay at sea but created lots of rip currents along the entire Northeast coastline. Everyone is hoping the next few storms will head toward the state of Texas, to help with their drought and wildfires.

Oldest Bed and Breakfast Establishment in Connecticut

This past weekend, I was in Woodbury, Connecticut (USA)
The Curtis House Inn (1754)
was near an event I was attending.

Rooms were quite comfortable.

The included breakfast was quite minimal. A full breakfast option is available nearby at Dottie's Diner.

Scenes From Norway

We have all been very saddened by the recent events in Norway. Here are just a few of my favorite Norwegian photos -- from the south to Svalbard.

It started to rain, so I asked a taxi to return me to the ship, 1/2 mile away. (I wasn't happy with the $35.00 USD equivalent charge!)
